A location recording session is an alternative to hiring a music recording studio. As there are not many studios outside London able to accommodate the number of musicians typically found in an orchestra or choir, location recording may be the only practical choice.
Locations can be varied and might be a favourite concert venue, hall, church or meeting room, providing a cost effective and familiar environment. Certain considerations need to be kept in mind however, particularly in relation to internal acoustics and external noise disturbance. We are always happy to advise regarding the suitability of a venue.

It is becoming routine for live concerts to be recorded, capturing the energy and atmosphere difficult to reproduce in the studio. However, if a professional result is required, for release on CD for example, certain challenges have to be overcome.
With just one chance to capture the performance, a backup system is essential. Even though modern recording equipment is very reliable, it is still comforting to know that our microphone sends are split and sent to two independent recording systems.
A further consideration is the potential requirement for unobtrusive microphone placement. In critical situations, without obstructing audience and performer sight-lines, impressive results can be achieved with just one microphone, our surround-sound Soundfield. An example of this can be heard on our audio samples page.
